Why is it always the case that when people get a proposal to build a new racetrack, all they see is the amount of green that it will bring them and the area.  Then when the racetrack shows up the cry, bitch, moan and whine   :wah: about how loud the bikes are.  "We came here for peace and silence",  WELL THEN DON'T VOTE FOR A DAMN TRACK!!!!!!!

The same thing happens during spring break, and on a personal note the FL/GA football game weekend.  Hotels all want the $$$, but then cry and complain when people are partying through the night.

Here's the story that got me fired up:

I'm guessing that the majority of the people complaining now didn't actually vote in favor of the zoning changes.  As much as I might hate to hear about the complaints, I don't think they're out of line in voicing their concerns.

The people that really cheeze me off are those that move near an existing track and then proceed to bitch and moan about it.  IT WAS THERE WHEN YOU MOVED IN!!!  As far as I'm concerned, those people have absolutely no grounds to complain.  They should've known about the noise when they moved in.

Personally, I would like nothing more than to listen to race engines from my back porch all weekend!

Big too doo in Rockford about Rockford Speedway. They hosted a metal concert there and some residents are whining. Well the track is ALOT OLDER than any home within 3/4 mile. As one of the tracks neighbour said, "If they didnt want to hear the noise from the track, they should had built somewheres else."

Blackhawk Farms spent an incredible amount in legal bills to make sure they could continue to make noise...on a track that was built in 1967...and is now surrounded by people with their acreages...

Will be a continuing problem.  But it is also in the best interest of the builders to really inform the locals of what's really going to happen.  Problems in the SW with that guy that built the track...and had to shut it down;  he didn't follow through with the zoning and other issues that limited his use.

Also theres stupid people who buid homes near a plot thats been zoned for large retail (ie walmarts, Kmart, shopko style stores) for umpteen years and when they start to get ready to build one ther, the 'residents' get all bent out of shape and try to stop it. Thats what you clowns get for building homes just outside the city limits (within 1/2 mile) in the "country" without checking what might be going into that big ass lot near the highway. Or the idiot who moved next door to a PIG FARM and is bitching about the smell.

I think the problem is that the residents were there first.  So, if someone moved into someone's neighborhood, said they raised pigs as a hobby...but really had a pig farm...maybe that's the better analogy for Miller.

I guess on paper it always looks good. Let me share a case in point that really happened in the Charlotte area.In 1959 the city helped build a dragstrip known as Shuffletown. They wanted to get the kids off the street racing becouse it was getting to be a real problem (sounds familiar). It enjoyed success over the years. Fast forward to 1992 and the housing creeped in the area and people started to complain about the noise. The track shut down that year never to be opened again. Now in the present day many hope for a track to get people off the street racing scene. I guess another way to look at it is it won't host NASCAR so many people feel why bother.

Its the same thing with the milwaukee mile.  The track is over 100 years old and people literaly built thier houses on the back straght.  Then they bitch that the track is used more than 3 times a year.  The track was there way before you moved there.  I remember the same thing hapening with Hales Corners Speedway.  60 year old track and people bitch about the noise.

We had a fun one here. Kmart shut down a store. Lot set empty for about 5-6 years. One of the big cinema chains bought the store and announced they were going to build a 25 screen movie complex. Get this the neighbors bitched about the traffic it would bring, to the graffti covered abondend property(all other tenants moved out of the strip within 2-3 years of Kmart leaving). FYI cinema was fully within same zoning  as the Kmart that existed before, no change in zoning. Neighbors complained so much that the city council got involved and against the city attorney and zoning commision took it upon themselves to prevent the cinema from getting building permit, special provision law or something they passed as it is not part of their normal business. Well Cinema sued and won major money (millions if I remember right) from the city for unjust taking of property or use(some legal term), which they were right in winning. Now get this Lowe's buys the property and builds one of the biggest stores in the area and there is major traffic there from 7AM-9PM then Semi's lining up all night to drop off stock, and residents were worried about the weekend traffic a theater might bring to their "tranquil" neighborhood.  :lmao:

I've got another one. Just recently the parks and rec. dept. in Charlotte along with private investors have built a whitewater park for rafters kyaks and bike trails. It is the only one of its kind in the world! Enough publicity to use for olympic trials and pro events. Plus rec. activities for anyone like hiking and so on. The neibhors in the area embraced the project with open arms as well as the city. We have been excited anticipating its' opening in August. Well the people living near by had a road that they claimed was private and blocked all acces to contruction traffic. Now the project is behind schedule. It took a court ruling in the parks favor plus some kick backs to the landowners to get going again.
Check out Charlotte observer.com if this activity is your thing. Its an amazing facility that is using natural resources (river near by) its is a one of a kind project. People seam to want things sometime but just not in their own backyard. I feel the more tracks in the country the better off the sport is. Esp. when they are safe for bikes.

PS New track in Salisbury, NC High Rock International Raceway! Like a VIR or Barber caliber raceway! They have had the same run of the mill prob. too!Only this time it involved a civil war battle field!
