Remove cover push aside spring-loaded roller remove star and replace w/new the factory locktight is darn good stuff some heat may help.Get new gasket before you start .New clutch plates now's the time .clean screw apply locktight.

My kit came with the gasket. Don't recall it being overly complicated to install.

You don't need to buy the factory pro. Buy the 2nd generation 2006 shift star, detent spring and surrounding hardware. All parts to replace first gen stock shift kit. It will fix your problem and only cost you 30 bucks. It also helps with the gear clicking in tighter. Always be as assertive as possible on upshifts and downshifts, don't get lazy foot.

A R&D undercut trans is the tits though. I love mine.

I paid $500 for mine. Included under cutting for both up and down shifts.
