I'm interested to see if the water pump makes it.  I guess it depends on how the impellor mounts.  If it leaks, time for a new one.

Okay, now unfortunately having some experience with this....

If you pull the covers and look directly down the head the freeze plugs in SVs are located on either side horizontally of the spark plug.  They're small cup-shaped metal plugs, about an inch in diameter, placed concave side out in the plug holes.  If they're out of place, you'll see nicely down inside the head casting to the water jacket above and around the valves and valvestems.  If the rear one's are pushed out they'll generally be sitting atop the plug holes.  If the front one's are pushed out, you'll get the treat of gently extracting them from down around the exhaust valve srings.

Go ahead, ask me how I now know this....

My pump was leaking a tiny bit, just a drop or so every now and then so I just went ahead and put in new seals.  No need to get another pump unless you started it when frozen and the impellers broke off the shaft.

The Suzuki shop manual doesn't even MENTION freeze plugs, and provides no diagram of the coolant system to indicate where freeze plugs would be.  I've applied hi-temp gasket sealant to them and tapped them back in flush with the head casings.  Re-filled the coolant system, but noted that I was still getting some of the oil-sludge leaking out of the oil drain plug.  Not sure if that was just the result of the oil viscosity decreasing as the temps in the garage warmed up (electric space heater, plus kerosene heater, plus 1000 watt work lights all on), or of there being another leak somewhere in the system (a blown head gasket?), so I'm letting it sit today with a measuring cup under it so I can see how much additional leaks out, and what it's composition is, before figuring out next steps.

I had to pull the covers on the left and right side of the motor and there was a ton of milkshake sludge in all the nooks and crannies.  I also had to wipe out all the sludge under the valvecovers.  After that, I did about 5 oil changes with a heat cycle between each one using the cheapest Walmart oil I could find.  I changed the filter after the 5th oil change and it was good to go....

I have a sweet New SV700 SBK motor ready to install. New - never started - I quit SV racing before I had a chance to use this motor. It has Carrilo H beam rods, high polished & balanced crank, +3 mm bore & pistons, MegaCycle cams 08/010 grind, +1mm SS valves, Yosh springs & retainers, APE billet cam adjusters, APE cam sprockets, FBG under cut transmission Up/Down, Some lightened internal gears, modified oil pump +10 psi, ported heads, all new cam chains, bearings & gaskets. Did I mention it is new?  I want $2500 since there is more than that in parts alone without factoring in the cost of a donor engine and labor and machine shop fees and shipping costs. Since you are close by and a friend I'd sell it to you for $2000. It has not been frozen btw. I'd think you could probably beat Rich Wu on an SV powered by this engine.

In the interest of engine parity, Wu can buy my SV superbike motor with 3mm overbore, APE adjustable cams, etc, etc....  :cheers:
