I am too looking for advice/options.

I race the MW classes in MA, very competitve and most of the time full grid. Not being able to pre-enter very early meant spent the most of the year starting in 2nd wave.

Prior to this weekend I had 1 top 10 finish in any race, that was in the rain at Summit point where I finished 7th.

This weekend at VIR I improved a lot and finished a 8th in MWSB, and was running 4th in HWSB until lowsided in turn 1. I felt that if I pushed tried hard, I would be further near the leaders, but I guess pushed a little too hard.

according to the rule book, I have way enough points to be bumped. I listened to others and know that if I move up I would be able to get faster by running with the faster racers, but I would probably spend the entire next  year running in the back by myself or with a couple of other slower experts. So what to do? I spend every weekend I can work on my riding skills and thinking skills at trackdays, but when it comes to race time, my time is still too slow to even make top 5 in AM classes, unless I can start on the front row. I make very few mistakes, had 2 crashes since I started riding on teh track 3 years ago.

Opinions? I really want to do what's best for me, but don't want to cause any bad feelings by staying AM or get too frustrated and race myself in EX.

Thanks all for your valued opinions

We got into this for the sport of it. How sporting would it be to fanagle something to stay back to race next years newbee's? Having never won a race, (DARREN, why don't you break down!) it's a bummer to know it ain't going to happen. Face it, we have expierence (and credit card bills) that the new guys don't. But the concept of somebody calling me an expert? Uh yeah, uh huh, OK, sure, What?

Quoterun white plates, and get faster as the result. nuff said. ;)

Hell Brad, I'm 41 and have no desire to go much faster. So I'm fast at Gateway. I had about a 5th place avg. finish at the rest of the tracks. Thats in a class with 5-10 entries avg. In open classes I got whooped up on real good. GTU; 32nd at Road Am. 20th at Blackhawk, 11th out of 11 at Gingerman.  Last week at Gateway I finished 13th. If I decide to run only F40, I'll definately go expert.

QuoteIMHO,

BTW, I got your Wood, but the guy you told me to give it to had already left.  So, i'm going to hang it on my wall ;)  LOL, We'll figure something out, or I can just mail it to you.

Mail it to me. Handle it gently and use protection please. ;D

Sorry, but if you raced enough to win 2 championships it's time to move on.  If you don't plan on getting much faster, like you say, you might as well get used to racing experts now.  Sounds like you will still be competetive in atl least fm40.  If you can't keep up, or don't want to improve much more, why not buy an SV or some other lw bike and get out of the 600 stuff.  If you just want to be AM for $$, move up and earn it.  Let some new racers (1st year next year)  have a turn. ;D

If I don't want to get faster, race in the expert class ???
If I get lapped by the fast amateurs..... what will happen in the expert classes?  Get out of the 600 stuff....You can run 750 4s and 1000 twins in F40.
Let me see......F40 pays how much? $0! I must be rich! ;D   How many F40 riders were new to the class and racing?  (besides me?)

I'll knock it off if you'll send me a copy of the GTU race from Sept. ;D (The one where you passed me on the 2nd or 3rd lap. Then I faded off into the distance. #124)

Nothing personal, just saying that an am champ.  normally would move up.  Also my point, on you saying your not wanting to get any faster was that, you can't stay am forever, and if you truely get lapped by fast am's, you know to hold your line already then ;D.  J.K.

It still scares the crap out of me anytime someone passes me :o :o :o
At 41, I just want to race for fun. I'll be racing whatever is closest to my house, MAM, Gateway, Heartland Park, CCS, WERA, CRA) so I won't be a threat to anybodys championship. I hit every race this year and spent way to much money. I won the championship by doing this not by being so fast. Gateway was the exception and we had 4 races there.
