QuoteHey LonnieM, fancy seeing another r1 forum member here.....anyway how's the noise level in a suomy??  It's gonna be pulling double duty as a street helmet, so I do't want it to loud.  CCS won't allow a helmet eith rash on it, huh?  How bout if I get it repainted, will it pass inspection??

Chris

Chris, it's comparable to the Shoei's, I think the Arai is one of the better helmets!! I'm sure painting it will have no affect on passing inspection, I personally would never wear a downed helmet, I went down at VIR and hit the back of my Shoei, and I sold it to someone that wanted a good deal! I bought a Arai Kenny Roberts Jr replica!

I figured I shouldn't were it after a wreck, but I'm cheap.  Damn, well one season out of an Arai RX7RR seems a bit too expensive for me, time to go suomy!!

QuoteCCS only requires the helmet pass DOT standards, this is a by-product of our former AMA affiliation, where the AMA didn't want to offend anyone who contributed to their legal fund. Can't blame them.

We haven't changed simply because it is up to the rider to choose their own level of protection, once they pass the minimum standards. All of the helmets tests are done by the manufactuer itself anyway, so we all know how well self testing/policing works. Yes Snell does some random tests, but for the thousands of helmets sold by each manufacturer they may get to check .001 percent of them.

In sumation, if your happy with it and it carries a DOT number, wear it.

Be seeing you.

Kevin,

What about OGK helmets?  They are not yet DOT certified (at least as far as I know) yet they have the BSI certification.

According to the previous poster, they are legal.  Is this true?

The fit is similar to arai...but the build quality is not quite the same.....i can get Aria helmets...and sell them to you cheaper than just about anywhere!

I haven't seen any OGK helmets yet, and to tell the truth, I haven't seen the actual numbers on the BSI Standard. I will look into it.

ANybody have those laying around?
